Billy Walton Rd 3

Birstall Rangers 3-4 SPARTA MOSHDOCK

Steve Morley x 3
Will Robinson

Turned up knowing it would be a difficult game against an upcoming and in form Birstall side. We started well on the front foot and their defence could not handle striker Steve Morley who was finding all sorts of space. Took his chance and put us 1 up with a header. Made it two quite quickly with another great header from a set piece. Fair play to Birstall, they didn't stop and got back into it with a well take free kick. Then we went straight up the other end and Will Robinson scored direct from a corner. However, Birstall again got back into it from a flick on from another set piece. 3-2 HT.

Second half and we knew Birstall would come out fighting. We contained them well and looked dangerous going forward, Morley still running their centre backs ragged and we hit the woodwork a couple of times and missed some good chances. That gave Birstall some hope and after some sloppy defending they managed to equalise. Once again though, we showed a bit of class and went straight up the other end and thanks to a terrible mistake by their captain, Morley completed his hattrick to put us in front again.

In the last few minutes they had their keeper sent off harshly for handling the ball outside the area. And then there was a bit of a scuffle after their captain punched one of our players (ref didn't see it) although he then ran away!

A good win against a good side. Good luck to the Birstall lads, all of them were good lads except their skipper who was an idiot all game.

Inter Mivan 2
Wigston Rangers 3

Horrible conditions today but a good game, we went in 1-0 up at half time after a defensive mix up - but a very undeserved lead as we were struggling to cope with Mivan who definitely handled the conditions better than us.

In the second half we played the better football and thought we had put the result to bed at 3-1, but they scored towards the end to make the last few minutes a bit nervy.

Scorers: Michael Peck, Joe Humphries and Oliver Watson.

Sporting Birstall 0-3 United Revolution

Excellent performance from my boys yesterday. Solid first half kept the ball well and restricted Birstall to long distance efforts and set pieces (the delivery of which was excellent). Two well matched sides and expected more of the same in the second half. But we pushed on and moved the ball quicker creating more changes, at the same time leaving ourselves more exposed at the back. An excellent save by Tuner kept it 0-0 before good work from Jim found Ryan Broderick unmarked to head home the first. Birstall's stand in keeper (so we are told) did really well to keep a couple more efforts our before he was left rooted to the spot as Matt Twigg hit one from distance and found the bottom corner. Jim Markley then stepped up and slotted home a penalty to make it 3.

Great team effort from us today, brilliant attitude from the unused subs as well. On the whole good bunch of lads at Birstall, like to give out some banter hate to take it, maybe that's an age thing.......

Aberdale Galacticos 2-7 Suecastle

It was pleasing to sign off 2014 on a high against a side that have had a couple of good results of late. A free week next week meant despite not having a full squad for the day we were all up for closing the year on a high and certainly did that.

We created chances regularly and were 3-0 to the good at half time and in fairness it perhaps could have been a couple more. AG came out firing in the second half and a well placed free kick got them back in the game with just over half an hour to go. Fortunately we were able to hit back with more of our own and were soon our of sight. Alot of credit should go to Ollie Walmsley who played out of position on the right hand side of midfield and had perhaps his best game for us to date. He ran the left back ragged all second half and was at the centre of much of our success.

Ben Hirst added 4 to his tally for the season whilst Harvey Jones, Pat Crofts and Tom Harris completed the scoring.

Thanks to the Aberdale lads for a game that was played in great spirit.
