Yep just got in to find our game off following a 'pitch inspection' by the ref

Both managers and players thought the pitch was fine but the ref was only doing what he thought was best.

Makes me wonder why the council didn't bother to cancel it yesterday and save everyone's time and money!!

because the council get slagged off for calling games early and should be left to referee

absolutely right. people need to realise the councils dont work weekends. we have tried for a long time to get them to see sense and leave it to the refs on a Sunday morning. calling games off on a thursday is too soon

But councils have till 5 Saturday afternoon to cancel it so surely someone is still working

not on a saturday, the parks department finish on Fridays

The parks office staff are probably 9-5 Monday to Friday

As frustrating as it is to get kitted up at the ground and then find out the ref calls it off I'd rather have that than someone sat behind a desk making the call on a Thursday

Difficult call for the ref but at 3-3 neither team can feel too hard done by

1st off i would like to say a massive well done to the ref today. One for letting the game go ahead and secondly for actually forking the pitch in areas himself.
As for the game, it started pretty even on the slippery surface but we (dukla) managed to bag the all important 1st goal which gave us the momentum to push on. Mjr were never out of it but their cause wasn't helped when their keeper decided he wasn't playing anymore at 4-0 down. Massive credit to the mjr lads though as they regrouped and reshuffled and the 2nd half was an entertaining 1-1 with mjr scoring a worldy free kick. Was great to have a game finally but I'm not holding my breath that next week or the week after etc will offer to much in the way of game time.

What's annoying is that this game shud never had been played. The pitch was waterlogged badly in places.and is now probebly unplayable for a few weeks. The only reason it got played is because foxes needed 3 players to play so they were eligible to play in the county cup next week. Now I'm not slating foxes for this cuz I'd probebly want to do the same in their situation but the league need to take a gud hard look at theirselves.
The ref got told by the league that the game must go ahead even if we had to reverse the fixture. So he called the pitch as playable wot a joke. Fair play to foxes tho smashed us to bits. And the refs hands were pretty match tied aswell. Absolute farse all because foxes are representing the alliance in county cup. We'll played foxes you fully deserved the result today I hope it's worth it now go do the alliance league proud

are you absolutely sure the league insisted on it being played? sounds very unlikely to me

Great to see a bit of "Sunday league spirit" today. I cannot believe that as many games got played as they did. I assume that many had instances like us today where I am sure we'd have been perfectly within our rights to have turned round and gone home after a glance at the pitch but both teams wanted to play so it was a case of "get on with it"!
Terrible football and yet one of the happier days as both sides were sensible and it had a "friendly game" feel to it. Fair play to the ref for getting it going (no way we should of but a ref that cared what the teams said and just got it done - top work!) I doubt our kit will ever be blue again but jus a good laugh in the mud!

Interesting, because their County Cup match is not next week. They are due to play the winners of Frolesworth United v Office Update and that was postponed today . That game will be rescheduled for next Sunday, so Leicester Foxes OB cannot play their semi final until at least 9 February

Just goin on what their manager and the referee said Gordon. What are we supposed to do if the ref says its playable and the council haven't called it off

Pukka pies 2-1 sporting birstall .... Birstall took the lead with a penalty kick then Rob Jackson scored to make it 1-1 at half time then on 89 min Corey Lovell smashed in the winner for pukka... 3points booooom .. Big win today that was for us.To start of with we left it up to the ref and his decision whether we played or not. So glad we did tho

It is accepted that Leicester Foxes OB were keen to play, to assist player eligibility for their semi final

The actual situation was that, anticipating the Oakfield OB pitch to be unplayable the League gave authority for the fixture to be reversed if necessary. Both teams were aware of that facility.

The League had no dialogue with the referee and made no such instruction that the game must be played.
