GT 7
Wigston Rangers 0

Held our own first half with a depleted team, 2-0 at half time. Second half their class began to show, a good game played in the right spirit and excellently refereed. Best of luck to GT in the next round.

Wigston Fields 1-1 Groby town AET
(4-2) penalties.

This cup tie went all the way to penalties and was quite close all the way through. Fields started slowly but created a good opening after a long ball went all the way through but the striker poked wide of the pose. Groby played well and took the leader from a well worked free kick chipped to the back post and two unmarked groby players were there to head home. After that Groby were first to everything and fields were really poor. Into the second half fields stepped it up a bit and pressured Groby more, causing several problems but still no breakthrough. Groby could have sealed it late on but for a great save from our keeper to keep it at 1-0. Groby looked like they were heading through but with the very last kick of the game Keith Edgar popped up on the edge of the area to fire in the equaliser. Into extra time and both teams threatened on occasions. A couple of decent corners from fields causes problem and a goal mouth scramble and a couple of breaks from Groby caused problems for the fields defence. That meant the game went to penalties. Groby took the first penalty and dragged it wide. Mark Allen stepped up and rolled it in to make it 1-0 fields. Groby seconds penalty was brilliantly saved by fields keeper dan McDonald. Captain Steve Toone the stepped up and fired in to put fields 2-0. Groby then scored theirs to make it 2-1. Dan McDonald stepped up for fields and converted cooly to make it 3-1. Groby again scored. It was left for Thomas Dunkley to send fields through and he did so by rolling the ball into the corner. Fields won 4-2 on penalises.

Fosse City 1 - 2 Thurmaston

Think it was 2 teams struggling for players this morning. Thurmaston not quite as strong as they were when they gave us a 7-0 drubbing earlier in the season, but to be fair to us we actually turned up and had a go today which is more than we did in the away fixture.

A tight game for 70 odd minutes until we took the lead with a breakaway goal against the run of play. After that we ran out of steam and were unable to cling on to even a point despite withstanding the pressure until the last couple of minutes. A 25 yarder out of nothing completely knocked the stuffing out us, then 2 minutes later with the last action of the game, the winner went in.

Gutted to lose the game in the manner we did, but credit to Thurmaston for sticking at it to the death after a few decisions went against them.

I can remember us leading 1-0 away at Thurmaston a few seasons ago only for them to score a winner at the death that day too. Very similar game to today.

On to the next one!

Suecastle 4-2 Aberdale Galacticos

We were glad to come away as winners in what proved to be a tighter affair than the first time we played AG. The first half was a close encounter on a pitch that was hanging on by the skin of its teeth and we benefited from an own goal seconds before half time to take a 1-0 lead into the break.

Aberdale hit back quickly in the second half and with the pitch worsening due to the continually melting frost, the game could easily have descended into a long ball game. Credit to both sides who continued to get it down and play. Three goals in a 5 minute spell all but won us the game with 30 minutes remaining. Aberdale grabbed a controversial consolation with not long left on the clock but we deservedly came away with all 3 points.

Suecastle goals came from Harvey Jones, Glen Sharman, Jack Hirst and an own goal.

Thanks to the Aberdale lads and good luck for the rest of the campaign.
