desford ath 5 fc pochin 3
well what a way to end a very bad week for the club.
half the team from last season have gone, either leaving for other clubs or out with long term injury
including all of last seasons very successful back four, except for blackie(and he's 93)
the new manager for the season quit after last sundays final friendly, and the final blow was one of the
best keepers in the alliance league quitting 2 days before the 1st league game
i have had to come out of retirement (with the threat of divorce ringing in my ears)
to spend last week texting, ringing and
going round to players to make sure we had enough players to even start the season.
and then it all seemed worth it, the lads were fantastic and after 35 mins we were 3-0 up playing some really good
football and then our keeper who was one of the lads with an injury had to come off and to be replaced by one of our young subs, who to be fair to him was the only one to volunteer. we managed to get through to halftime without conceding but you can't win games without a proper keeper and despite the young lad saving a few with his feet desford got one back with a cracking strike which gave them a big lift and their two fast skilful forwards then gave us problems and in a mad 20 mins we conceded four more.credit to desford for a great comeback and their attacking players will cause teams in the division plenty of trouble.
but at least we have shown we can be competitive after our 3 divison promotion and with a new manager and a few players coming in next week things should get better
the joys of sunday football eh
