Best Alliance team ever Empty
PostSubject: Best Alliance team ever   Best Alliance team ever Icon_minitimeSat 24 Oct 2009, 5:30 pm

This was a question asked 4 years ago and here was the answer

Don't dare ask for it to be updated in the current circumstances.

One assumes that the “best team” was in the top flight and so our researches have been restricted to this level. In the League’s history, there have been 95 teams who have played in the Premier Division (or the old Division 1) and so qualify for consideration. To narrow the search down even further we have restricted it to teams who have been at the top level for six seasons or more.

This leaves us with only 15 teams to be considered.

The next problem is how to measure “best”. If we look at the number of points gained we get the following result:

1. Wigston Town (CC) 869
2. WMC Braunstone 533
3. Birstall Eagle 496
4. Es Cana 385
5. Thurnby United (*) 318
6. Oadby Academicals 314
7. Advance Couriers (**) 286
8. Cedar Motors 255
9. Hunters 238
10. Turner & Jarvis (***) 198
11. Widdowson Haulage (****) 197
12. North Kilworth 181
13. Fleckney Old Crown 164
14. E L Cook Electrical (*****) 144
15. Scarlet Pimpernel 139

Of course, this does not take into account the number of games played and so a better measure might be the average points per game. Here goes:

1. WMC Braunstone 2.30
2. Cedar Motors 2.24
3. Advance Couriers 2.17
4. Hunters 2.09
5. Wigston Town (CC) 1.77
6. Oadby Academicals 1.71
7. Birstall Eagle 1.66
8. Widdowson Haulage 1.52
9. Es Cana 1.46
10. Fleckney Old Crown 1.37
11. Thurnby United 1.29
12. Scarlet Pimpernel 1.22
13. E L Cook Electrical 1.20
14. Turner& Jarvis 1.04
15. North Kilworth 1.04

But its not only about winning. What about loyalty to the club and to the League? Based on number of games played, this is the result

1. Wigston Town (CC) 491
2. Birstall Eagle 298
3. Es Cana 264
4. Thurnby United 247
5. WMC Braunstone 232
6. Turner& Jarvis 190
7. Oadby Academicals 184
8. North Kilworth 174
9. Advance Couriers 132
10. Widdowson Haulage 130
11=. E L Cook Electrical 120
11=. Fleckney Old Crown 120
13=. Cedar Motors 114
13=. Hunters 114
13=. Scarlet Pimpernel 114

My top three would be
1. Wigston Town (CC)
2. WMC Braunstone
3. Birstall Eagle

Which is your top team?

Does this trigger any memories? Let’s hear them.

One assumes that the “best team” was in the top flight and so our researches have again been restricted to this level. In the League’s history, there have now been 106 teams who have played in the Premier Division (or the old Division 1) and so qualify for consideration. To narrow the search down even further we have once more restricted it to teams who have been at the top level for six seasons or more.

This leaves us with only 16 teams to be considered.

The next problem is how to measure “best”. If we look at the number of points gained we get the following result:

1. Wigston Town (CC) 869
2. WMC Braunstone 533
3. Birstall Eagle 496
4. Es Cana 457
5. Advance Couriers (**) 457
6. Thurnby United (*) 318
7. Oadby Academicals 314
8. Cedar Motors 255
9. Hunters 238
10. Turner & Jarvis (***) 198
11. Widdowson Haulage (****) 197
12. Leicester Markets (******) 190
13. North Kilworth 181
14. Fleckney Old Crown 164
15. E L Cook Electrical (*****) 144
16. Scarlet Pimpernel 139

Of course, this does not take into account the number of games played and so a better measure might be the average points per game. Here goes:

1. WMC Braunstone 2.30
2. Advance Couriers 2.26
3. Cedar Motors 2.24
4. Hunters 2.09
5. Wigston Town (CC) 1.77
6. Oadby Academicals 1.71
7. Leicester Market 1.66
8. Birstall Eagle 1.66
9. Widdowson Haulage 1.52
10. Es Cana 1.51
11. Fleckney Old Crown 1.37
12. Thurnby United 1.29
13. Scarlet Pimpernel 1.22
14. E L Cook Electrical 1.20
15. Turner& Jarvis 1.04
16. North Kilworth 1.04

But its not only about winning. What about loyalty to the club and to the League? Based on number of games played, this is the result

1. Wigston Town (CC) 491
2. Es Cana 302
3. Birstall Eagle 298
4. Thurnby United 247
5. WMC Braunstone 232
6. Advance Couriers 202
7. Turner& Jarvis 190

11=. Fleckney Old Crown 120
13=. Cedar Motors 114
13=. Hunters 114
13=. Scarlet Pimpernel 114
13=. Leicester Market 114

My top five would be
1. Wigston Town (CC)
2. WMC Braunstone
3. Advance Couriers
4. Birstall Eagle
5. Es Cana
