Gents,

It is with a very heavy heart that NRI will not be competing in the Alliance League next season. Due to various reasons, relating to finances, player availability etc we will not be around next season. The last thing I would want is to fold a team half way through the season, and that was arguably my biggest concern.

The end of last season was immensely difficult and took a lot of time and effort to see it through, it would have been a lot easier to quit with about 4 games left, but I genuinely do not feel this is how a team should end. Its not fair on those competing around you.

Although we have only been round a few years, there have been some great rivalries built up against teams like LDA Firsts, Magna Town and Huncote. All of whom we competed with for the league and all of whom probably felt we didn’t deserve to win the league lol. We have also made some good friends, in amongst last seasons misery, games with the likes of Fosse City, Azzuri and Barcabullona put a smile on my face.

Forum members have been great, Hellboy has been a big supporter of ours, and a number of other forum members have been brilliant for banter…Dan Mitchell, Ross, Pete, Paul Daniels, Jimmy Bullard…the list goes on!!!

Also, I want to thank Dennis, Gordon and the rest of the committee for their support over the years and also their patience (I am sure Gordon will have no problems telling people how much of a pain I was with player result forms!!). The organisation in this league is second to none and I have found it a privilege that a player of my ability can play in a league that is almost professional in its functionality.

Made some brilliant friends in the NRI ranks and also specifically grateful to Malc Heggs for being a superb manager and easily the best I have played for.

The highlights for me have to be the Stokes cup with Jay Heightens ‘wonder goal’, our game against Niffy with the league in the balance, the matches with Magna and Huncote – fiercely competitive but in the best of spirits.

Also, before anyone says we are just quitting because we didnt win anything last year, or unlikely too next year, we had discussions with another league a week or so ago and we could have joined them in a division i think we would have walked, but as far as i am concerned, i only want to run a club in the Alliance League.

Anyway, its been emotional…but thank you everyone!!

I reckon the committee will offer NRI a place in div 2 in a late attempt to keep hold of them.

Sad to see NRI go Widds and I know how difficult a decision this would have been for you and Malc....the Huncote v NRI games where some of my fondest memories of the most successful period of our history

Yes the folding success in this league is monumental, there's more folds than an origami tournament.
