| Looks like the weather is going to get WORSE next weekend so cannot see many games taking place…. http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=uk7dayx7;page=7;type=free;ct=17107~Leicester;sess=#forecast We’re heading for a fixture pile up in April, by my reckoning there are 16 Sundays left in the season (including 10th Jan). We still have 16 league matches to play plus a minimum of 2 cup matches, so that’s at least 2 night matches so far and that's if we play every Sunday!!! Weather outlook for the whole of January not looking great either. | |

| We've got 17 league games left and at least one cup game, which is probably going to be achievable assuming a couple of night games. But any more cancellations and it is going to be unviable to complete all our fixtures. Is it worth planning proactive contingenices now rather than reacting when the problem might cause untenable situations e.g. making games double headers. Just thinking alloud... | |

| I was thinking that I would be putting 'yes it is' on this thread, but you make a very interesting point Mr Rangers.
16 weeks til the end of the season, not enough sundays in the year, let's have another division :-)

| We can just about beat that. Sporting have got 16 league games and a minimum of 3 cup games still to play. Think we're going to have 3 games a week in April. | |

| I no it defeats the object of Sunday morning football, but in cases where possible could we play at midday? | |

| Still maintain that with many clubs fitting in half a dozen friendlies pre season, the season could be started earlier for those that wanted or had the facilities. Just my opinion | |

| Afternoon could work in some cases but at what point would it go from AM to PM, would have to be a few days in advance if the weathers looking dodgy?
In our case on Sunday the pitch would have been unplayable all day as the temperature did not go above freezing and it’s shaded by trees.
A few years ago we played a county cup match on a Sunday afternoon as the team we shared our pitch with were drew at home as well. We just agreed it with the ref and council and all was good!

| Just a thought to give pitches a good couple of hours, as at 9am, the sun was coming out, and might have helped some pitches (not ours). | |

This I know there is the issue of pitch availability (schools etc) but as you say friendlies are played so hopefully it would be a case of scheduling fixtures based on pitches. This may not always be possible but the season could certainly be started for some teams, although a disjointed start to the season is not ideal is it really any different to the situation we have at this stage of the season where some teams have played a significant number of games more than others (we have 4 games in hand on Wiggo ressies already for example)

| At least you'll know by Friday if the game is off if played on a council pitch. Not sure who owns the ground we're playing on this weekend but I don't fancy trekking over to hinkcley to have the game called off when we get there! | |

I only remember 1 occasion when the Alliance season was extended and that was only by a week. That is looking back well over 35 years. Having said that, I do not recall wholesale postponements so early in the winter.

| i think it has been more of a extension without someone actually saying we are extending the league. games have been played beyond the 6 a side once that i can recall and it was just well they got to be played and that the only time because teams have played midweek up to that point.
including senior league i remember reffing 19 games in 23 days at the end of one season
